When I was growing up my family was very into all sorts of alternative medicines, massage, reflexology, and herbs to name a few. On the farm the importance of plants was deeply instilled in me, and all through my adult life I’ve used herbs as one of the main ways of treating my health issues. But somehow I’ve never got around to growing my own medicinal garden and making my own medicines, how have I gone this long without doing that? I’ve gone to workshops that teach you how to make your own tinctures and salves, which is quite easy, but I have never done that either. For years Lee and I used this great herbal salve from a now defunct herbalist. This stuff worked on any skin problem, burns, infections, cuts, bruises, sores, hemorrhoids, pimples, EVERYTHING! Now that we can’t get it any more we really miss it, and shockingly I’ve been unable to find anything even close. The formula included about 20 different herbs, which is why it worked so well, but I can’t even find a salve at the herb store with 4 or 5 healing herbs. So necessity being the mother of invention and all that stuff, I decided its high time I figured out how to make my own. So first off I need a refresher course on what herbs do what, and sweet serendipity while killing time at a bookstore I find this gem of a book, apothecary storage in my kitchen. That may be a whole other post, as always I will be sharing all the good info with you.
